Good Triumphs Over Evil

Our sermon today at church was very fitting for what's been going on in our world recently. The sermon was based around Psalm 52:

Why do you boast of evil, you mighty hero?
Why do you boast all day long,
you who are a disgrace in the eyes of God?
You who practice deceit,
your tongue plots destruction;
it is like a sharpened razor.
You love evil rather than good,
falsehood rather than speaking the truth.
You love every harmful word,
you deceitful tongue!

Surely God will bring you down to everlasting ruin:
He will snatch you up and pluck you from your tent;
he will uproot you from the land of the living.
The righteous will see and fear;
they will laugh at you, saying,
"Here now is the man
who did not make God his stronghold
but trusted in his great wealth
and grew strong by destroying others!"
But I am like an olive tree
flourishing in the house of God;
I trust in God's unfailing love
for ever and ever.

For what you have done I will always praise you
in the presence of your faithful people.
And I will hope in your name,
for your name is good.

We talked a little bit about bullies in the world and how often times in today's society people become successful by bringing others down. There is an illusion in our society of evil triumphing over good. We see it all the time. It can often feel like when you try to do good and make the right choices, it never seems to go your way.

I know this has definitely been true for me. I do something nice for someone and then I end up in a worse place somehow and it can be so frustrating sometimes! But God reminds us that His goodness will always triumph over evil. While the world may give us an illusion of evil dominating good, God will bring justice and will always overcome the evil.

This Psalm reminds us that it is not worth it to put your trust and confidence in your own power. God's power and love is unfailing and can withstand anything. So how awesome is it that he invites us to share in that love? He promises to love us and overcome all circumstances, evil, and hardships until the end.

It is up to us to trust in God's unfailing love, and hope in His good name!

Happy Sunday from the Nowell girls!

  1. Love this post! So comforting and true. Like you said sometimes it's hard to remember His unfailing love when you feel like the world's against you! Thanks for the reminder ;)
