Virginia Beach: Home sweet Home

Most of y'all know that my parents would consider Virginia Beach their hometown. That and probably Memphis since we've lived in both places the longest of all of our Navy moves. I went to middle school in Virginia Beach where we lived on "Bay Island". We made some great friends and Mom & Dad loved our neighborhood. This is where I reconnected with my best friend Christy (our Mom's were friends in Cali when they were pregnant!) and we nicknamed our neighborhood "the hood". We had a blast living here! We had a ski boat and the neighborhood was always busy with block parties, or us kids running around and stirring up trouble.

Now that my parents have been gone for close to 10 years and there is potential for my Dad's retirement in the next 10 years (He will literally stay in the Navy until they kick him out...so we'll see how that goes!)...my mom is looking at new houses! They love our lot and the neighborhood of course and it's very centrally located in Virginia Beach. However, they are toying with the idea of tearing down, rebuilding or just selling it and relocating.

If anyone knows my mother, they know that she is SUCH a planner. She is the best packer, planner, trip-organizer, and everything else you can imagine. So rather than wait until she knows she might be moving to Virginia Beach after retirement (which she has no idea), or until they have decided if Virginia Beach is where they want to be....my over-planning/organizing mother has decided that she needs to meet with a builder while she's here! She's so silly. But ya know what? There's a reason why things always work out perfectly for her...ya gotta trust her plans!

I've gotta give it to her though...the builder she is looking at is acca-amazing! His work is so fabulous and he will build anywhere in this area. His name is Stephen Alexander and is a local to this area. Take a look at his website:

If this doesn't make you drool then there must be something wrong! Of course most of his looks have a little bit of a beachy feel, but they are also very classic. Mom and I love the finishings and the detail in all of his homes. The only thing I didn't like about him is that you just pick your home from his list of homes (which are all gorgeous) and then he builds it. However, momma made a good point in that it's much less stressful that way! She doesn't want to have to pick out every little detail because she trusts his judgment more than her own...very good point. Anyways, we are going to see the model home today and meet with Stephen himself, so more updates to come!

XoXo,
Southern Saving Grace
